Farewell, Mr Sorrow

I've been listening to this song a lot recently - in fact, I've been listening to a lot of All About Eve generally.

This seems to be a song about ridding yourself of people who make you feel unhappy, and hold you back, despite how much you tried to offer them and hear their message, and try to help them understand yours. Sadly, it's not always possible, I guess.

Julianne Regan (ex-Gene Loves Jezebel) has a beautiful voice, and this is a great example of how she uses it. On her website, she gives us an insight into where she's come from, and where she's going:

"Haunted by her past, but focused on the future"

Six o'clock, all the closing shops
And the rainbows on the pavements
Of a sleepy town.
October leaves were wept from the trees
In tears of grief and strange relief
And sympathy.... all for me.
Do you remember walking out
The day it rained forever
And you were wondering
If I held dreams of wedding rings
Well, farewell Mr. Sorrow
Tomorrow is my own.

I believe we made a vow
Beside the fireside but I'm sure I lied
When I promised you
That I would never want sing
Along with anything
But for the strings of your guitar
Here you are...

So this is how a Judas kisses
Well, this is my kiss.

Oh, and sod it, whilst I'm feeling indulgent, here's Julianne's biggest hit (this one's called "Martha's Harbour" (UK top 10, 1988)...
